Welcome to B’NAI SHALOM V’TIKVAH

The Reform Synagogue of Durham, operating as B’NAI SHALOM V’TIKVAH (BSVT) has been developed around the principles of Reform Judaism.  What began as a dream in the fall of 1993 has grown to become a committed Jewish Community in Durham Region.

SHABBAT SERVICES

BSVT holds regular monthly services from September to June and Minyan Services in July and August.  Shabbat Services are a central part of our congregational life, in addition to High Holy Day Services in the fall.  We are fortunate to have experienced spiritual leadership provided by Rabbis and Cantors from the Greater Toronto Area.  Our family-friendly services are designed to provide congregants with an opportunity to actively participate if they so desire.

Shabbat morning services are Rabbi led and Erev Shabbat services are lay led by trained members of the congregation.

Shabbat and Friday evening services are open to both members and non-members alike.  BSVT  is always pleased to welcome visitors and would encourage all those interested to attend.  We hope that you will consider becoming a part of our congregation after your visit.

DEMOGRAPHICS

BSVT is fully accessible facility, family-friendly and welcoming of the LGBTQ2+ community.

Our Synagogue membership ranges from young adults to Seniors.  Being located in Durham Region outside of the “typical” Jewish neighbourhood, our membership is comprised of a diverse group of friendly people.

Many of our members are in relationships with non-Jewish partners.  The majority of our members have children, many of which attend the various services and Hebrew school.  And finally, according to our recent survey, 70% are either actively or very actively involved in the Synagogue in one way or another.

Look around our website for more information on Hebrew School, Festivals and Life Cycle Events and other opportunities at BSVT.

Come see what we are all about.  We think you will like it.
