High Holy Days 2019

High Holy Days in our 25th anniversary year will be a special time for all spiritually and emotionally.  We are looking forward to revealing our new Aron HaKodesh modifications and the new Quilt put together by the members of the congregation.  We are also using the new Mishkan HaNefesh Makzors for our services.  Members are reminded to bring theirs with them (or pick them up at the services).  There are some available for Guests as well.  The readings and layout of the Makzor will assist the Rabbi and Cantor in making this a meaningful and emotional Service for all.

If you are a first timer at BSVT, we offer Free High Holy Day tickets for the second day of Rosh Hashanah or Discounted tickets if you want to come for all or most of the services.

The World’s Most Dangerous Dreidel:

A few years ago we tired for the Guinness world book of records title of worlds largest dreidel.  We didn’t quite get it on a technicality, but our 32 foot, 4 inch dreidel was a smash.  Especially when it landed.  Not having claimed the world’s Largest Dreidel, we claimed the World’s Most Dangerous Dreidel.  Just ask anybody who was standing close to it when it fell.  We played a game of dreidel with four people spinning it.  Much fun and danger was had. (When a 32′ dreidel falls, you HAVE to pay attention). Video

Latke Challenge 2018

The competition was stiff as always.  So were some of Howard’s Latkes (Can’t pay attention to a cooking Latke for more than a minute at a time,  talk about H.A.D.D. or H.D.A.D. or A.D.H.D. or A.D.D. I’m not sure).  Anyways, the latkes were great and voluminous this year with even more competitors than the previous years.  From Bulgarian Sweet latkes with Apples (yummy), to Curry Latkes (ummmm) to Starsky & Latkes with sweet chili Sour Cream (yowzah), to traditional (more, more, more) deliciousness that overwhelmed the senses with tingles and groans of delight, we had them all.  The awards were numerous and handed out by our Guest Rabbi Svi Sveinstein.  I’ll try to remember them here.

There was the Bubbie award for the most traditional ones.

There was the Zaddie award for the Fresser in all of us,

There was the Maccabee award for the latkes that hit like a hammer.

The Rabbi award for the blessing of latkes.

The Shammus award for the latkes that kept repeating.

New Website

BSVT Logo revised

Hello BSVT friends and family.  This is the first kick at the can for our new website and blog.  I will keep all of the special event items and pictures in the blog if I can figure it out.  This really is just a test blog, but I hope to keep it going just before and just after every service or event.  If you have something you would like to contribute, feel free to contact me and let me know.
